DENMARK TO PROVIDE 1 MILLION USD TO SUPPORT GHANA IMMIGRATION SERVICE
The support by the Royal Danish Embassy will assist GIS in implementing a strategic plan enabling improvement of the migration management in Ghana

Accra December 15th 2009
Today the Director of Ghana Immigration Service GIS, Elisabeth Adjei and the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Danish Embassy, Mr. Jan Pirouz Poulsen signed an agreement to the tune of 1 million US dollar to improve migration management in Ghana from 2010 to 2012.
Migration management in Ghana is handled by GIS and the Service is currently developing a strategic plan for the coming 4 years. The support by the Royal Danish Embassy will assist GIS in implementing the strategic plan through the development of work plans and Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The project will also assist the GIS in improving the GIS training school and Academy at Assim Fosu, both with regards to the quality of training as well as the facilities at the Academy. The training school is currently training GIS personnel, but will also be training officer from other migration services in the region.
The project includes strong mutual collaboration in the future between the Danish Migration Service and Ghana Immigration Service.
The new Danish support to Ghana Immigration Service is supplemented by other Danish development cooperation with Ghana which is addressing root causes of migration by general improvement of living conditions in Ghana.
